REMADE IN DOVER IS THE NAME, RECREATION THE GAME

WE RAN A concept store FOR 3 MONTHS (24TH NOV 2009 - 27TH FEB 2010) WHERE PEOPLE cAme and BOUGHT locally produced upcycled items; WERE inspired by international upcycled pieces; BROUGHT items to workshops to be upcycled into something new; shareD knowledge and skills with other people; and also SWAPPED something THEY no longer useD with something someone else left in the dedicated swap shop area.

THIS IS WHAT WE SET OUT TO DO AT THE BEGINNING OF THE PROJECT iN SEPTEMBER 2009...

Knowledge will be passed and networks established between young and old, charity shops and artists, and between crafts and hobbyists and artists – craft and hobby will be empowered and inspired by high design.

RECREATION, The concept store, will be kitted out by local interior designers and craftsmen using upcycled materials and will itself form part of the concept.

A partnership with local charity shops will allow the use of all upcycled materials from unsold charity stock.

The concept store will also act as a regional forum for upcycling, led and inspired by the chosen makers and local crafts people sharing their skills and knowledge.

Regular workshops, talks and happenings will be held where people can bring in an unused item or two and be guided and inspired into transforming them into an upcycled item.

The ethos of skill-sharing will also come to the fore in this instance, whereby people running the workshops, giving the talks, or organising the happenings will do so in the spirit of sharing.

The initial items might be brought from home, or from a local charity shop for customisation. These pieces will then be taken home by the participants who will then have a piece of the project at home.

It is also envisaged, that the concept store will become part of a global network of like-minded, independent concept and guerilla stores and organisations.
